It's built-in into uTorrent and Azureus also. The advantage of the former is that they share the same encryption protocol, so you'll have more users to connect to. Bit Comet has it's own proprietary protocol, so you can only connect to other Bit Comet users. There aren't as many Bit Comet users as there are uTorrent and Azureus users.

So far, uTorrent encryption works quite well for me. I'm getting a pretty up/down ratio. I hope this is a long term fix. However I fear that one day it might come down to law-suites against users for bypassing there shaping technology.

A single VPN, SSH or SSL connection is easily distinguishable from encrypted P2P traffic. Sure you can run your stuff over "port 443", and maybe even make it resemble HTTPS with some clever packet crafting, but the throughput and multiple sources will make it easy to spot as BitTorrent. The actual payload doesn't have to be decrypted. Don't worry, Ellacoya makes a highly scalable IP processor :)

Besides, once the naughty user is identified, they can just limit YOU. Bad user. Only slow packets for you.

If you download the latest beta builds of Azureus and uTorrent you will increase your speeds. Just make sure to enable encryption in the options menu. Both of these clients use the same protocol for encryption, so you'll have a huge user base.

In uTorrent, just go into other options and select Enable. That is it. Leave allow legacy incoming connection checked.

The Azureus beta with encryption is a little hard to find and install right now, I'd recommend uTorrent.

First of all, Bram Cohen is sleeping with the RIAA/MPAA. Second of all, in countries like Canada throttling is common so it's not a waste of time. Third of all, encryption works.

PS-if ISP's will throttle connections, we simply will just have to enable full encryption so that the ISP doesn't know what port we're using, this option luckily does exist in uTorrent

There's a reason why it's available in beta version and they didn't release a stable version yet. There's kinks to work out. Right now your encryption is only going to work with other users that have the beta versions, thus I understand your drive in recruiting so many people dling this, but these versions are usually not so stable. Yes they do tend to make improvements, such as disk/file size handling problems in utorrent 1.4, but still I'd wait for the stable version. Call me a pessimist.

I hope you're using Azureus 2.3.0.7, or you are only experiencing the placebo effect :), but it does work. For example, in uTorrent if you look in your Peers tab in the Flags column an e or E indicates that you're using an encrypted connection. Give uTorrent a try, it's an amazing app.

hey in utorrent 1.4, the only enable option I see is under network connection, enable upnp port mapping for xp, is that it ? Thats not much of encrption all clients have that, atlease bitcomet does.
