Re: Comcast Ordered to Issue Refunds I think the only way Comcast rate increases will stabilize, is when FIOS-TV gets here. There's a reason they had tons of cash to buy Disney. Let's hope FIOS will give the practical monopoly some real competition, and a reality check! |

 | if the states dont grant statewide franchise agreements (which IMO is a good thing, because a state wide franchise agreement is a bad thing for local municipalites) then FIOS-TV may take forever and a day to get to most of us. If Verizon is still in business by then.
Verizon doesnt look like it wants to pursue local agreements, as from what is being reported they are spending all their time lobbying for a statewide agreement, which, most believe, wont come in most cases (some have already been granted, but dont look for many to be) Without a franchise agreement, no Fios-TV, without FIOS-TV in a large area, Verizon = in serious financial trouble |

1 edit | Remember, the only reason Comcast is issuing these refunds is because the price of limited basic analog must be cost-justified in areas where the LFA is certified to regulate rates. Comcast can (and should) price all other tiers at whatever the market will bear.
Given Comcast's gigantic profits, isn't it obvious that their gigantic price increases aren't tied to costs? That's not worthy of an investigation, is it?
Granted, your price of limited basic analog is pretty gigantic, but it's hard to fault Comcast. Your LFA (or lack thereof) is the one who dropped the ball. |

Washington County - Comcast to refund $2.93 to many cable customers
Cable television customers in Washington County and a few other Portland-area communities will receive a $2.93 credit on their April bills, part of a settlement in connection with allegations that Comcast Corp. overcharged customers.
Comcast was charging customers too much for equipment rentals and installation fees, according to the Metropolitan Area Communications Commission, which regulates cable service in most of Washington County and in a few other places, including Lake Oswego. The rate credits will not apply to customers elsewhere in the metro area, where Comcast's charges were not reviewed.
The commission said it spent $18,000 cooperating with cable regulators elsewhere to investigate Comcast's charges, resulting in a refund of $271,000 to be shared among 92,500 customers.
