| I'll pass again I think I will hold on to my iRiver.
Built like a tank, sounds great, no special file transfer software, user replaceable battery and so on and so on.
I just can't buy into the must have for the moment toy hype. -- Fx Pacifica Branch, Tb Patrocles Branch, Fx Portable, Tb Portable All nightly builds.

I vote another one for Creative. I have the Zen Touch. It may not have the sex appeal of the iPod but sounds great and is built like a tank. I bought a second one from Amazon.com before they become extinct.

| Re: I'll pass again Another good mfg. of MP3 players.
Even my old Rio S50 I gave to my wife when I bought my iRiver is still churning away as if it were new.
Not glamorous in the slightest but it plays music and that is what it is all about. -- Fx Pacifica Branch, Tb Patrocles Branch, Fx Portable, Tb Portable All nightly builds.

| | | | Built like a tank? Well the nano has no moving parts due to its flash base, mine actually flew off the treadmill when I was jogging, bounced 10 feet behind me and hit the wall. I was worried because I thought I just broke it, but when I plugged it back into my headset the song was still playing! It never missed a beat, the nano is almost indestructable imo. | |

| | I wouldn't mind an iRiver much, except I want the special file transfer software. I sometimes want to just copy over random songs, how do you do that with your iRiver? I sometimes want to just copy over Classic Rock songs, how do I do that with your iRiver (without rearranging my whole folder structure)? I like the simplicity and ease of use of being able to quickly search for any song/artist/genre and create a playlist that I can easily transfer to my mp3 player.
I realize that you should use what works best for you, I just think that sometimes people like you think that people just use iPods because they are "cool".

| Re: I'll pass again I just used the Korean firmware.
Turned it into a USB MP3 drag and drop player.
Just had to switch the language to English is all.:)
Nothing special and as easily done as transferring music.

Well a player that does not have a replaceable battery is a dead giveaway that you will have no easy time replacing it down the road. They do not last forever. Should I spend "X" amount of dollars ever couple of years for a new battery or buy a player I can change batteries at my leisure, That is just common sense.
I spent 2 weeks researching MP3s before I made my purchase and found the negative feedback on Ipods enough to steer me away not to mention the battery issue. The iRiver suited my needs for listening to music.

Is that a disease to be able to see through the hype and lack of durability the Ipod offers and see that other products exist that are better?
This is not a pissing contest. Enjoy your player and if it is an Ipod keep in mind after paying to replace the battery a couple of times that your players cost far exceeded it's worth and trust me Steve Jobs knows this. | | | | Re: I'll pass again I wasn't trying to say that the iRiver wasn't a good choice for you. I was just trying to provide some insight on why some people prefer iPods. As far as the battery issue however, I guess it depends on what you want out of your device. I personally doubt I'll still be using this device by the time the battery wears out. And the hardrive is probably likely to fail before you would have a chance to go through many batteries any way.

| Re: I'll pass again I know you were not saying the iRiver was bad. I never thought that and yes I am aware that many like the iPod yet I do believe it is marketed with hype and not enough consumers can see past the flashy looks to see the maintenance cost or durability issues.
I personally have no use for a miniature video player such as the above mentioned iPod offers. I want my good eyesight to remain so later in life. For me on the road video is my wide screen notebook or a hotel room with a TV. -- Fx Pacifica Branch, Tb Patrocles Branch, Fx Portable, Tb Portable All nightly builds.
