For me it is the opposite

I live in Rural PA and was paying betweeb $85-115 a month for my POTS ALONE, no DSL! The freedom package was finally offered this December and now my bills are less than $50. I realize the is only a small case but I just saved a bunch, hope it wan't subsidized by the rest of you

Less than $50 w/ or w/o DSL?

If without, you could get broadband from your cable company and get Vonage, SunRocket or whoever and your phone bill will be $20 or less.

If you are getting both for $50 than count yourself in the lucky few that are able to get such savings and insure your current PUC members stay in office so Bell can't increase tariffs on you and raise your rates.

Nope, POTS alone is under $50. I am not that lucky, I was happy with the savings woth my POTS though, it is rare.

I'd go Vonage but my current Cable Provider (Blue Mountain Cable) will often fall to telephone modem speeds during busy times with tons and tons of packet loss. I have had enough issues with teamspeak in the past, I doubt the connection would support Vonage with any quality.
