Can't connect to DG834G router

I was pointed here from another forum. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Yesterday I tried to upgrade the firmware on my DG834Gv2, as my wireless connection kept dropping out (a wired connection seemed fine). I (perhaps stupidly) started to install all the firmware updates, oldest first.

The first firmware upgrade (1.03.00) went fine, but after I'd done the second one (1.04.01), I was no longer able to a) connect to the internet or b) connect to the web interface for the router. I tried running the firmware upgrade recovery utility from the Netgear site, but I couldn't run all the way through the utility: it didn't seem to recognise there was a "device" (router) attached. Which it is, via an ethernet cable.

Netgear support have been less than helpful:

Me: "I can't connect to my router after a firmware upgrade"

Them: "You need to upgrade your firmware"

Me: "But I can't connect to my router to do that"

Them: "You need to upgrade your firmware"

Me: "But..."

Etc etc etc.

All the lights on the router that should be on, are on, but all I can get is "limited or no connectivity", either via ethernet, or wirelessly. I'm at a bit of a loss. Is it beyond help? Or is there anything else I can try? I've tried using the factory reset button on the back of the router, but holding it in for 10 seconds doesn't seem to re-boot the router like it's meant to.

Any advice gratefully, gratefully received.

I recommend doing a long reset. Hold the reset button in for 10 sec, then remove the power while still holding the reset button in for another 10 sec.,then applying power back to the router while holding the reset button in for another 10 seconds.

Thanks, I'll try that this evening.

I tried the "long" reset, and it did seem to force the router to run some sort of self-test or routine or something. Lots of flashing lights that eventually settled down to all the correct steady green ones anyway.

But I still can't connect to the web configuration page. 192.168.0.1, the suggested default address, doesn't take me anywhere.

I've tried it on two different PCs with the same lack of results. I'm going to try a different ethernet cable tomorrow, but I don't think it's that, as my network connection seems to be OK...apart from the fact that I can't connect to anything.

I'm slowly resigning myself to having to buy a new router, but I'd rather not if there's anything else I can try...?

Is the router's Power and Check light blink alternatingly after firmware upgrade???? I would suggest you to try the utility one more time. If the problem is still there, then you need to get a replacement router. Also, a reset of the device for 25-30 secs can also solve this kind of issue.

The power and check lights blink alternately after I've done the "long" reset, until I switch it off and on again. I'll try the utility again this evening. Thanks for the response.
