Re: Dale Begg-Smith, Adscpm Spyware King wins Olympic Gold

said by ilago:

Sadly, I have to acknowledge that even non-consenting spyware installation is not pursued by the authorities in any way and there are very few moves in Australia for legislative control:(

I'm wondering why someone that is an Olympic level athlete would choose Australia as a place to reside
There are a still a few ways to spell tax haven..but they do not exist in Canada.;)

Here's a more flattering article for the myriad of sour Americans who lost to him for the Gold Medal.

I love it.. I did not watch a minute of skiing and could care less if Australia, Canada or Mozambique won the gold medal in any of the events.. I do care about this hero using spyware to pay his way there.. those are what my sour grapes are about..

... as opposed to the myriad victims of his malware - which do you think this thread is really about ? ...

From the original post, it appears to be an effort to discredit him (because of how he funds his training) or take away from his Olympic "glory".

... even though it clearly states, in plain english:

"Now this really ticks me off! Don't know if any of you have been following this development, but I hope the "spotlight" on the company behind the gold metal winner, gets some exposure on the shady dealings that brought him his fame and fortune, at the expense of millions of computer users that suffered from Adscpm Network"

... the bold text is mine, in an attempt to emphasize what should have been obvious to anyone, but apparently was lost on some ... that's what started the thread ... granted, there have been some detours, but that's what the original post said, still there for any and all to see ...

'Glory'???
He deserves nothing!! If he was right in the head
he would give that medal up and apologize on his hands and
knees to the world and then just maybe I would forgive him for the crap spam he has done!! Thats all I will remember him for!! Nothing more nothing less!!!

That's interesting! Note: That article posted on Feb. 16, one of the very first raising questions

From the "flattering article" ...the end of which states:
quote:
Begg-Smith moved to Australia as a 15 year old with his older brother after deciding they could no longer participate in the Canadian moguls skiing program because it clashed with their business interests.

The pair run an internet advertising company which buys internet pop-up advertising and is reportedly worth $40 million.

The company, which the brothers established when Begg-Smith at age 13, has been the source of much speculation, and was again in the post-event media conference.

Begg-Smith fielded as many questions about the nature of the business as he did about winning a gold medal.
I have to wonder about that. They moved from Canada to Australia because it interfered with their business?

Sounds like the authorities were already looking into them or laws were past that made what they were doing illegal. Australia must of been a place where they could continue what they were doing within "legal" bounds. There needs to be a large drive for some one to move from cold Canada to blazing hot Australia on the other side of the world. That kind of a move is not something done in a mere whim or a slight conflict of interest. If this was a normal conflict of interest a person would just drop one of their hobbies and continue as normal. They moved to the other side of the world.

Dale moved to Aus for the skiing – Canada was not prepared to have him on the world cup team (age 15 no wonder) and the Australians made him an offer.
