I'm wondering why someone that is an Olympic level athlete would choose Australia as a place to reside

From the original post, it appears to be an effort to discredit him (because of how he funds his training) or take away from his Olympic "glory".

... even though it clearly states, in plain english:

"Now this really ticks me off! ... the bold text is mine, in an attempt to emphasize what should have been obvious to anyone, but apparently was lost on some ... that's what started the thread ... granted, there have been some detours, but that's what the original post said, still there for any and all to see ...

Sounds like the authorities were already looking into them or laws were past that made what they were doing illegal. Australia must of been a place where they could continue what they were doing within "legal" bounds. There needs to be a large drive for some one to move from cold Canada to blazing hot Australia on the other side of the world. That kind of a move is not something done in a mere whim or a slight conflict of interest. If this was a normal conflict of interest a person would just drop one of their hobbies and continue as normal. They moved to the other side of the world.

Dale moved to Aus for the skiing – Canada was not prepared to have him on the world cup team (age 15 no wonder) and the Australians made him an offer.
