Australia must of been a place where they could continue what they were doing within "legal" bounds. There needs to be a large drive for some one to move from cold Canada to blazing hot Australia on the other side of the world. That kind of a move is not something done in a mere whim or a slight conflict of interest. If this was a normal conflict of interest a person would just drop one of their hobbies and continue as normal.
