Good luck with that!

What exactly is a "Chinese domestic analysis server"?

If they don't like what you're attempting to access it, you won't.

Hmmm...according to you, Bush should have blocked your post and put you in jail, just like China. After all, it is subversive to the Bush dictatorship.

Or are you confusing the MPAA/RIAA paid congress with the executive branch?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't they just plug in the IP into whatever they wish to browse, rather than the full web address?

DNS resolves names, ie. broadbandreports.com , into IP addresses. If you had the hard IP of a server you wished to access outside of China (assuming it's not blocked), wouldn't it bring you there? (again, assuming someone's not on their Intranet w/ the same IP)

here we go.....
If you feel censorship is so bad here than move to China, Vietnam or Iran and see how well you can bitch about your leaders there. I mean really, you don't know how good you have it here in the US.

I mean I know life is tough here with all of the political freedoms like free speech, freedom of religion and right to posses fire arms. I also know it can be a little troubling not living under a martial military type dictatorship where the government's goons will come make you disappear. I also understand your plight living in a society that practices due process and law and trial by jury to ensure you get a fair chance for justice. I mean I really feel bad for the fact that you don't have to undergo compulsory service in the military and it's a volunteer force and that you can protest anywhere you want even in front of the Nation's Capitol without being run over by Army tanks.

America does suck...low taxes, low unemployment, capitalist society where I can read the Bible, Koran or Penthouse without being persecuted by religious police. Another thing that gets me going is this whole I can elect my officials by going to the polls and voting is awful too, I mean why can't my leaders be picked for me where I have no say in how the government is run at all?

I was thinking something very similar.
I thought an IP address was unique where DNS simply resolves names in to unique IP's.

Wow. From bashing China, to bashing the U.S. government, to bashing the entertainment industry. I wonder if Godwin could ever have anticipated this. I also wonder how much further the thread needs to go before Godwin's law comes into effect.

It means that when you plug in something like »:/www.whatever.com into your browser in China, your ISP's DNS tables will be based on China's domestic ones that have been sanitized by the government. You can do some really scary things with something like this. For example, if you want to lock out a foreign company from e-business in your country, you redirect all requests for www.amazon.com to a domestic bookstore. If you find a site that regularly bad mouths your country, have the DNS entry redirect to a government run site. Maybe just the usual 404 error message, or if you want to be really creative, have your people create a site that's a visual clone of the original, but YOU control the content. All of a sudden, Amnesty International thinks China's doing a bang up job of dealing with political prisoners.

This isn't even a new idea. Corporate intranets with external internet access do this a fair bit, only on a smaller scale. Request a corporate site, and you get faster access because it's being served from a local machine in the building instead of the online one that everyone else sees. Request something inappropriate and it's blocked -- cuts down on employees checking out porn and online poker on company time.

It doesn't count if you do it for the purpose of invoking Godwins law.

Actually, if you would read the note, I was pointing out that if Bush really was as dictatorial as China's leaders like the poster posting as okman thinks, then he (

I would rather hunt Quail with Cheney then go for a ride with Ted Kennedy.
