 | Control of the web? Hmmmm... Control of web sites with DNS?
If it's to control inappropriate servers from being accessed from China, that's gonna work for what? A month?
Simply punch in the IP address of the site, and voila!
Unless they want to put firewalls all around China too? |

Explain how they works in what is fundamentally a contained intranet? The point is to put "firewalls" all around China. At least, that's my guess. |

 | reply to MousePad A couple of problems with this.
1. I don't know what the stats are but my guess is most website use shared hosting. 1 ip may have 1000+ domains assigned to it.
2. If you can't do a dns lookup on a domain you can't get the ip anyway. |

 | reply to MousePad The "China DNS System" will stop most people from accessing "bad" websites (where bad is defined by the Chinese Communist Party). For the stranglers, they have the "Great Firewall of China." So you might visit a "grey market" site and obtain the IP addresses of a popular, but banned, site, but you'd likely find that IP address blocked before long. (And the grey market site either a) pressured to rein in the IP address posts, b) shut down, or c) blocked.) -- -Jason Levine My Gallery | Jason's Toolbox | PCQandA.com | URateit.com |
