VinsThePrins : Ok guys I have been fiddling with this for a bit and I've managed to get past previous problems... then I ran into a new problem. After setting up my router to do PPPoE, it wouldn't connect. I would hit Connect and nothing would happen. I got around this too. The problem was that for the user name I was just filling in my user name. This is WRONG. So I played around a little more and I found out it has to be username@sympatico.ca (b1xxxx##@sympatico.ca) something like that... so if anyone had the same problem, try that solution. Thanks everyone for your help. I can't believe I went two months unable to host/join games and putting up with slooow torrents.

VinsThePrins : oh yeah and also, when you say that I should use the wireless router to forward the ports I need, does that mean I don't need to forward any ports on the modem at all? Like unlock it and all that? I would assume so, because the router is the one using the PPPoE right? I'm just making sure though...

VinsThePrins : Ok thanks but here is my issue: I'm told to use the router (DLink 524) to log into the PPPoE, not the modem, but when I hard reset my SS 4200 to get rid of the PPPoE on it, I can no longer access the web interface of my wireless router... I guess because you need an active internet connection to be able to do so? So I'm wondering if I need to create a PPPoE through Windows XP first to get an active connection, then change the settings on my wireless router through the web interface to set it to use PPPoE?

Sympatico Speedstream 4200 Problems

VinsThePrins : Hello this is my first post, the community here seems very helpful. I figure I needed to post because I have been looking around previous posts and I haven't been able to accomplish what I needed done. This is my predicament: I live in Ontario and I've just signed up with Sympatico. They gave me a Speedstream 4200. It works fine, but when I try to use it with my wireless router (DLink DI-524), it works but I can't figure out how to forward ports on the modem. I was able to forward ports fine on my router when I had a cable modem, but now that I have a DSL modem I'm having problems. I've read around that I need to either unlock my modem, reset to factory settings, forward ports on it, stuff like that. Also I tried to use my router to log into the PPPoE instead of the modem, but it doesn't work because the modem does it automatically, I guess I have to "bridge" the modem or something, and I don't know how to achieve that. I'm new to this kind of stuff, and I am so confused. I'm getting horrible download speeds for torrent files and I can't host or join any of my online games. If anyone can help with detailed instructions or advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
