 | It's all about the library, of both games and movies I can understand the delay in the release of the PS3. But, to be honest, I wonder if it is doomed to suffer the same fate as the PSP??
It is all about the library; of both games and movies. Sony is pushed for the PS3, like the Xbox 360, to be one of the centerpieces of your home entertainment system. so, the library has to be there. The PSP is suffering because consumers are shelling out big money on UMD movies (and, why would they, ripping DVDs is easy enough) and the game library is lacking, almost laughable. Thank goodness its hackable...
Sony isn't a Microsoft; they aren't willing to lose on the sale of each console, so i would expect to shell out a ton of money (> $600) and Sony needs NOT to make the same MS mistake: backward compatibility. |

 | Ive read in a number of articles (the sources of which naturally escape me right now, lol) that Sony wont be able to sell the console for less than $500. But they will rationalize this huge price by the fact that not only are you purchasing a new game console, but your purchasing an upgrade for your DVD home entertainment system. They are pushing this console more as an all inclusive entertainment bundle. Dont forget that the first generation Blu Ray DVD players cost around $500 by themselves....so the price is relative. |

A) considering it's cost Sony $900 to make each PS3 they are going to lose money on each one initially.
B) everything I have heard from the start is that PS3 will play both PS1 and PS2 games. So why is this even be brought up? |

Compared to HDDVD; Blu Rays price, manufacturing difficulties (HDDVD doesn't require much retooling for DVD production facilities), and lack of industry support leaves it dead in the water.
Add to this the issues inherent in the Cell Processor because of it's complexity (edit:Not the chip itself but the compiler to effectively use it) and I imagine Sony is realizing that PS3 is looking to be a very fast, very expensive, X-box 360 without live support. -- He that winna lout an lift a preen wull nivver be warth a groat. |
