 | YAAY! - At Last...A Forum for Xplornet! I was just about to start asking around about setting up a user forum.
But it's here! |
|
 | I've been a moderately happy Dway 4000 user until they put me on a new transponder a couple of months ago. Now I'm seriously thinking of changing to Xplornet and eating my paid for DWay hardware.
Any tips re installation...things I should watch out for, etc? |

 | reply to dailyplanet I am about to make the move from Xplornet/Direcway to Xplornet/Telsat within the next few days. Since I have the DW Small Office account, I will go for a two year, KaBang (Small Office) account. It is $10/month less then what I am paying now to get faster speeds which is the up side. The downside appears to be the $700 equipment costs plus installation and I have a perfectly good 98 cm dish and DW6000 modem ready to go...to the landfill!
I'll let y'all know how it goes...

 | reply to dailyplanet Bluenose:
Nope. The installation went off without a hitch (although the installer forgot to caulk the big honkin' hole he put in the wall to run the cable through.
It was up and running inside two hours. We've only had one weather fade and it's been more or less stable for the month that we've had it.
Geezer, let me know how it goes. When I can afford it, I want to move up to KaBang but money issues, yada yada. |

| reply to The Geezer I've got the old equipment .74 dish and dw6000 sitting here too.
I like the Ka service better. The only thing that ever knocks me out is really heavy rain, but its not as finicky as the Direcway was.
I'm averaging 1250 down. Got a 1.9 down from testmy the other day. And get about the same from toast.net. -- Put your PC to work!-Xplornet Ka-band 1.5mb/300bps-3 XP PC's-WRT54GS |

 | reply to dailyplanet I've had two down days - one intermittment.
Down day was hard rain and the spotty day was rain and fog. Completely goofed out the dish.
By that evening, however, I was good to go. |

LuvfishinCrunch to CurePremium join:2001-12-06 Canada | Most I lose is 20 mins or so. Fog and snow have no impact unless it gets icey on the dish, which is rare. -- Put your PC to work!-Xplornet Ka-band 1.5mb/300bps-3 XP PC's-WRT54GS |
