327W WEP Problems

anon : I did a search for this and didn't find anything, so here goes.

I have a Westell 327W with no WPA and a hardwired 10 character hexadecimal WEP. The problem is, everytime I type the WEP code into the wireless Laptop I'm trying to network (IBM Thinkpad with SP2) Windows keeps shortening the code down to 8 characters, so obviously it doesn't work. Is there a way around this? Maybe a program you can recommend?
