I've also seen it b0rk on a few Win98 systems, so for those I've replaced it with Avast (with all the extras turned off).  Avast seems to work well even though it didn't have the greatest detection rates last time I checked.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/1193253"><b>SpannerITWks</b></A> : Not advisable to run 2 AV's in real time, but you can have more than 1 installed, and just disable all but 1 with msconfig etc. You can flip back and forth like that, which is useful for comparing different ones. Some AV's might complain though, so you could be unlucky. I never have been though, and i've got 2 in right now.<br><br>You can of course run an AV + AT together in real time, which is what quite a few of us do, including myself, with NO problems. Personally i could care less about McAfee's Public version of their Anti-Virus software, a little bloated and i hate the "Security Center" crap, though their detection rate is very good.<br><br>Their Enterprise product on the other hand is hands-down one of the strongest AV programs there is, right up there with KAV. Detection is nothing short of excellent, and it uses a relatively small footprint. And daily updates.<br><br>And unlike the public version, McAfee Enterprise has many good tweaks, such as Access Protection, Buffer Overflow Protection, and the Unwanted Programs Policy.]]></description>

That probably explains why they are so snappy compared to NAV. KAV actually had to patch the product in order to catch that threat. Totally unacceptable.<br><br>I dont like NOD32 because it is a sitting duck when it comes to terminating it or deleting its keys files etc. Any AV product nowadays thats wants to call itself an AV product must protect itself from attack.<br><br>NAV works great for me. Its a rock solid product and on a decent machine the performance is acceptable.]]></description>

BitDefender license allows installation on one (1) desktop PC and one (1) portable belonging to the licensee -- noticeable cost savings for initial purchase and renewals.<br><br>When I see these AV polls, always curious how many are using AVG and Avast mainly because they are free?]]></description>

I wasn't real crazy about the phone-home production activation that started in 2003 (or was it 2004).<br><br>I tried both KAV and NOD32 on a trial basis.  I was AMAZED at how much more responsive the computer was, and it's a high end piece to start with (P4 3.4 with 2 gig).<br><br>KAV acted a bit flaky during the trial, so I bought licenses for NOD32 and have been extremely happy at its effectiveness and small footprint.<br><br>I will be starting to move my clients over to it as their renewals come up.]]></description>

The free version has the same engine as the pay version and is full of features.  Fully configurable to individual taste, in addition to the resident scanner one can also install scanners for email, IMs, P2P and browser if desired.
