get a life..
20 is not much to pay for firmware per year.. and what that gets you is instant response to problems etc. and ongoing maintenance.. ie they are adding new features etc.. and their firmware out of all I have tried works the best with wds and non linksys devices..

get a life.. I don't care the code is stolen.

| | | Exactly. The $20 gets you all the customer abuse you can withstand along with a product that works, free access to the forums and a release that pretty much won't brick your router on the first try.
I'm tired of people assuming open source is supposed to mean free. That's not the intent, and this sounds like competing groups whining about nothing. If you open source=free crowd want to take up a cause, go pick on Tivo for not releasing all their source code. Go bang on Red Hat about their RHEL being outrageously expensive. The Svea guys are probably recouping their expenses from bricking routers and spending their own time developing this gear. Gosh! You mean programmers have to EAT?!?!?!!?!?!?
All this ranting will just cause Sveasoft to release source code for what amounts to Alchemy. Everything else will be modified to fit within the GPL and you'll still pay for it. What does this accomplish?
Just because you download software and use it without cost doesn't mean there are not bills to pay to produce the product. Someone pays; whether it be the programmer kicking out source code as a hobby, or while he/she steals time while at work or if their work is underwritten by a benefactor. I would have thought this distinction would have been completely evident in 1997. Here it is, 2006 and we're still bickering about this.

Go bang on Red Hat about their RHEL being outrageously expensive. Red Hat provides the source code along with their binaries that fall under the GPL. Sveasoft hasn't. said by Jkgoaway :

All this ranting will just cause Sveasoft to release source code for what amounts to Alchemy. Everything else will be modified to fit within the GPL and you'll still pay for it. What does this accomplish? Compliance with the GPL? Free distribution of the modified source code without retaliation?said by Jkgoaway :

Someone pays; whether it be the programmer kicking out source code as a hobby, or while he/she steals time while at work or if their work is underwritten by a benefactor. Therefore, if the WRT guys put their hard work on the code and release it under the GPL license, what gives Sveasoft the right to use that code and not abide by that license.
| | | | | Re: get a life I RTFA and thanks for the effort at deflecting criticism of your views on open source by repeating the same line. Job well done on actually defending your position. | |

I'm tired of people assuming open source is supposed to mean free. That's funny. This is copied (freely, without fees) from gnu.org (»www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html) "The following licenses do qualify as free software licenses, and are compatible with the GNU GPL: GPL-Compatible, Free Software Licenses
GNU General Public License, or GNU GPL for short.
This is a free software license, and a copyleft license. We recommend it for most software packages. "
Open source may not meant to be free, but GPL is. It just happens that GPL is a bigger participant in the open-source movement, and that GPL is actually involved in this case. Please take some time to learn what open-source is all about, instead of whining about other people whining.
