anon : If anyone noticed a significant improvement in their internet connection speed over the weekend, I know why. The fiberoptic cable that was vandalized in South Sacramento on March 9 was finally repaired. Come to find out, almost all of the Sacramento area traffic was being diverted through Folsom causing significant slowdowns, packet loss, and dropped connections (don't ask me how I found this out, but it's true, it came straight from the mouth of someone who works there).

It's great to know that Comcast cares so much about their customers that they lied to me for a whole month, while sending 6 repair techs, fielding around 100 telephone calls from me, and finally having their local network engineer personally call me. If they had just been up front with me about the problem, I would have patiently waited for a fix. Instead, they waste valuable time and resources (mine and theirs) giving me the runaround instead of telling me what's really going on.

But a whole month! Give me a break! Something that takes that long to fix, they should at least be honest with their customers. If I don't see a credit on my bill (not very likely), I will be making a telephone call to someone to see where my credit is for the period of March 9 to April 2.

If you have called them to report a connection problem at any point between March 9 and April 2, I suggest you do the same, even if it did work somewhat okay. They shouldn't be able to get away with this crap.

The $40 credit is a drop in the bucket compared to the time spent dealing with it, but it's just the principle of the matter...

Gaming, Vonage, and uploads all worked erratically between this time period, with heavy packet loss and dropped connections.

anon : i had dsl and gaming was great, i wasnt getting 6 or 8 Mbps downloads on webpages (usually like 2.5-3), and i got (what i thought) was a great deal on comcast HSI. i was like 2-3x the speed for about half the price, why not?

well i just found out why not. now im signing up for dsl again. only thing that sucks is they make you sign a contract and pay for a modem again (even tho it's free after rebate)

UPloads were much faster on dsl too. you run an upload test and it shows 300-500 up, but if you try to transfer a file via AIM, you can see it start off like that and then pretty soon it's going at like 30-50. It's like they make it seem fast just for the tests.

i also switched from dish to cable at the same time as a part of their deal and one of my cable boxes freezes about 3 times a day, each time requiring me to pull ot the power cord and then wait 10 minutes for everything to update again. comcast is just garbage all around. My bill is $130 a month (WITH the discount) and this is the service I get, it's completely unacceptable.
