Re: Trango $149 CPE amazing discovery

said by 40883644:

I have looked everywhere, even Trango's web site and I cannot find where I can purchase 1 for $149.00. I see them listed for $197.00.

Am I missing something?

Rich
Register with them as a WISP and buy 30.

So I wasn't mistaken, Trango doesn't sell a $149.00 CPE, they sell a $197.00 CPE. Why do all the posts say $149.00? That's almost a $50.00 misprint

It might be power of suggestion, but I was there a couple days ago and thought I saw it at $149

They are only $149 if you buy them in a 30 pack and are registered as a WISP. Or you can get them in the $170 range in a 10 pack.

So now I have to be registered as a WISP.... Isn't that like discrimination or something. Are they afraid I will use it improperly or something? Although that could surely lower their RMA's if they sold only to real WISP's and not those disguised as one

If you are a US WISP... just send an email to sales@trangobroadband.com and we'll set you up on the webstore to get WISP pricing on all our products including the $149 CPE in 30 packs. Single piece pricing is $197, 10 packs are $179. We do have overseas distributors who have to charge a bit more due to freight and import duties and therefor our website refects only LIST prices unless you have a login.

More like giving you the Trade Discount you deserve just like going to any other wholesaler and setting up an account.

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!. This thread got out of hand very quickly!. Let me reiterate what "helpful" information is. Telling me that using a 19dBi antenna 40 ft from my 17dBi sector is good stuff, but arguing about product pricing SUCKS!, especially when we have 2 OEM's involved. While this may be a one sided argument to this point, I could easily see everyone taking the bait, and this turning into a real brawl?. Lets keep it on track?. Unless asked by a forum member, Your prices and discounts are not our concern, Just give us the best deal You can when we call. If You do that enough as a vendor?, You won't have to talk about it here, WE WILL!.

Just for the record, I quoted Robbin for the subject of my post, and Robbin is NOT the reason for my rant.

Thanks for your input to this thread. I will have to agree with you that it is possible to use SoHo chipset with custom firmware for WISP applications.

said by Trango:

we added a transmit filter to reduce out of band interference to other users
FCC rules require all vendors to add transmit filters but the quality varies alot. Trango tech guys could post a few spectrum analyzer plots on their web site.

BTW, Trango needed 2 receive filters, one for 5.8Ghz and one for 2.4Ghz. Field installations in noisy RF areas will tell us how good they are over time.

And of course the firmware which was a complete redesign - It does not use anything related to 802.11 except for the RF packet structure.
This is where I was shocked. I would have used Atheros or Ralink because the 802.11 MAC layer runs in open software and can be changed.

The Prism chipsets force vendors to live with significant chunks of Intersil/Connexant provided binary primary firmware.

WISP vendors have moved away from Prism by early 2005, mostly in favour of Atheros and Realtek, so I was truly surprised to see a new Prism design. That's all.

The new Atlas FOX works well and is very stable as are all Trango products. I had heard rumors of Atheros for some time but when I opened one was surprised they were not Atheros based. Very surprised to hear the Atlas PtP are not Atheros as they work in three bands. Would have thought an Atheros would be a sure fit.

Remember that the Atlas FOX ONLY works with the Trango 5830 AP. If you have Trango 5800 AP's deployed, they will not work.

5830 is the improved version of the original 5800 AP. When people talk about Trango 5 Ghz multipoint that's the AP they're talking about.

We've had very few problems with the APs. Victoria's warning applies to those of use who have been using Trangos for quite some time.

5830 AP's are rock solid. Never had a problem with one, just put it up and forget about it.

Solid as a rock!
I have about 30 clients on one and it has lasted through the winter without dropping one packet.

I am just a bit peeved with Trango that the Fox Atlas will not work with the 5800 AP since I have about 8 of those in the field...:(
