rcroning : Eddie, you can use any light source you like but don't mix. Tungsten is a good source.

Take a preset WB reading of the setup. More often than not the Tungsten WB setting in a camera will not give you results as good as a preset.

Edit: How to preset (in the A80 it is called custom) do the following. Turn the selector wheel to "P" (or any mode except AUTO)/press the "FUNC" button/scroll to "AWB" (or whatever WB setting you are at)/use right arrow on selector toggle till you come to "CUSTOM"/while aiming camera at scene press the "SET" button to evaluate WB. The camera will take a measurement shot. For this step make sure your setup and lighting is as you would use it. Also make sure you have the camera flash off. Finally press the "FUNC" button again to exit.

P.S. The above Custom WB instructions were based on how they are done on my wife's PowerShot A75. I assume the A80 will be no different.

pog : Someone will likely have a better answer! Here's my 2 cents, anyways :):

1) check out some existing online catalogs... how are those shots done? What do you love/hate about the images?

2) whatever background you choose, you don't want it to overpower the subject or clash with your site's look, either.

For eg, »www.onlineshoes.com/landing.asp?···andid=37
I'm not sure I like the white background... the lighter shoes seem more washed out. However, everything seems nice/uniform and generally easy to see.
--
My Site

Cytomax : Hello all i am going to try and make s shoe catalogue for my parents business. I am going to make a cheap light box/tent where i can take the pictures. I am going to put these pictures on a website and print them. The three main colors i am going to be working with are black, white, and beige. I was wondering what color the background should be in relation to these shoes or if it even matters. I was just going to use the blue background i see that every light box/tent has but i was wondering if that is a big nono. I am very new to photography and this doesn't have to be perfect i was just curious if there are any recommendations as to how to go about doing this.
Feel free to recommend me anything...
I have a Cannon Powershot A80
Thanks in Advance
Eddie
