hidroHeyfocker join:2001-07-15 Kingston, WA | 5263 How do i change VCI VPI? Hi,
I'm using a usb alcatel modem at the moment.I just acquired a 5263 Efficient Networks DSL modem.(It is ethernet based and plug and play) How would i go about changing the VCI/VPI values to match my ISP? Is it even possible?
Thanks, -Ed -- ~~~ Welcome to DSLR! ~~~ |

Does it have a sticker on the bottom that says the unit is preset at VPI 0 and VCI 35? If it does, you might have to ask Efficient how much they will charge you to change it if telnet is disabled.
Hope this helps.

You will have to change your NIC to IP 10.0.0.2 subnet 255.255.255.0 first unless you already have an IP on the same or similar subnet. A NIC setting of 10.0.0.2/255.0.0.0 will also work. It just depends if telnet is enabled/disabled and if the default 10.0.0.1 address is used or not. You can also try your browser by typing the IP 10.0.0.1 and see if it responds with a web interface page.
Some (not all) of the FAQ here might help. Look here: »The Unofficial SpeedStream 5260 ---> 5660 FAQ
Hope this helps.

 | Don't give up just yet. There are at least two ways I have found to do this with the 5262. The first is the easy way: Use the Efficient EnterNet software. You can download a 30 day trial copy from Efficient or look here. This apparently uses a low level MAC address protocol (LLC) to talk to the modem.
The second way is a little more difficult and requires taking the modem apart to add a serial channel. I am not sure what is inside the 5263 but can share what I found in my 5262 if you are interested. |

| Hi,
I just bought a new Westell Unit.
If i had seen this earlier i would have been hot to try. (I had to work all weekend...)
I will still try to setup Efficient modem, so i can give/sell to a friend.
If i can't get the software to do it I'll get back with you on the Serial setup...
Thanks -Ed
Hi Again i found this link in FAQ Note:All required serial conversion info here---- »personal.atl.bellsouth.net/atl/c/b/cbh014/ (This is what you mean to do right?)

This serial conversion is for the 5260s that are based on the 5660 router circuit. The 5262 I have is not based on the 5660 so this serial conversion does not apply. I opened mine hoping to make this mod, but the board is not the same.
The serial channel that is inside the 5262 was not intended to be a consumer interface. It is the shell of the modem's internal operating system. But it has several useful controls and status reports that I use to monitor my connection and reboot the modem when it needs it. |

Do you mean it is straight into the VxWorks Shell? If so, is it password protected or is that not possible on a direct serial interface? Very interesting.
Thanks for your great info.

It does not seem to be VxWorks. On power-up, it identifies itself as:

There is no password. The main menu looks like this:
