mrg123 : I was a very satisfied DSL Extreme customer in Southern California. I moved last year to Qwest territory in Longmont, CO. At that time, DSL was not available at my house (it's still not, but that is supposed to change). I would probably have signed up for DSL Extreme through Covad, but my understanding with that option is that I'm not even on DSL Extreme's network. DSLExtreme would just be handling billing and services such as email, etc. So maybe in the not-so-distant future I will be able to sign up for "the real thing"? That's definitely good news!

DSLExtreme & IKANO Merger

dslextreme : By now many of you have heard that DSLExtreme and IKANO Communications have merged. I know many DSLExtreme subscribers have questions. Hopefully I can answer these. First off, why did we decided to merge? The prospects of joining forces with a mostly dial-centric ISP was just too good to pass up. When we met the IKANO folks last year, we found a company with similar beliefs and corporate culture. They are a big force in the Qwest territory and have a huge dial-up base itching to convert to dsl. We feel it’s a very good fit. Also, the combined company will have more bargaining power for pricing with the telco’s. This ensures that our customers continue to receive the best prices and services possible. And not just on dsl, but all flavors of high speed access.

The first thing the IKANO folks said was “We don’t want to mess with what you’ve done.” That means we are all still here, George is still working the forum, support and billing are still helping customers. However we have been put in charge of expanding DSLExtreme into IKANO’s footprint (Qwest, BellSouth, Bell Canada). Everyone here is very excited about the possibilities. Our traditional niche has been to provide superior service at or below telco prices. We intend to continue with that same business model. We are also looking at opening up IKANO’s HotSpotzz wireless hotspots to DSLExtreme customers. Frankly, there are things that they do better than us and that we do better than them. The concept of taking the best of both companies is hard at work right now. There will be no changes to current levels of service, support or pricing. In fact our rating here at BBR is at an all time high: »Company entry - DSL EXTREME

Ari Ramezani
