he is using standard dns, he would to have change his dns to non standard one in order for the issue to be fixed.

I chose DSLX is for the great customer service (which I rarely contacted) and the other reason was to support the local, small business in my community in the S.F. Valley.

As a "non-advanced" member of DSLX, I got by pretty well until this event, which wasn't obviously thought through.

I use my computer for things including business/finance so spyware is a serious concern for me, and that was the reason I reformatted and reinstalled. It may have been extreme, but what else could I do aftr I tried everyhing, running scanners, etc.

Gee, I don't know. If a browser starts taking me places I didn't ask it to go, my first inclination is that the machine is infected with something. That's the MO for a good number of machines infected with spyware.

As much as I want this to go away, if they must do this, the page needs to look like an official DSLX page.

And they should have made alternative DNS servers available right from the beginning, thereby allowing "advanced" users to permanently bypass this from the start.

Anyway, I still think that this redirecting is a terrible idea (since it is the configuration by default and breaks internet standards).

No, it's not. But with adware/spyware/etc getting very publicized, how many non-savy users will fall victim to the same problem? If the intent of the redirect is to help new users, they should make it very clear that the page they are redirected to is associated with DSL Extreme and is supposed to help them, so they don't think they are infected.

Why don't you give your customers a discount with this "feature"? This "feature" doesn't 'help' computer illiterate people, it only makes YOU extra revenue. And probably look-up-results (whoever they are) tracks us. What's next, selling our information?
