anon : Yes, I am not an "advanced" computer user or a computer expert. Does that mean I am not welcome to DSL Extreme? It may have been extreme, but what else could I do aftr I tried everyhing, running scanners, etc.

When the problem still occurred after I reinstalled I thought I would ask my ISP on the forum if they have spyware on their end which is causing me to see this, and when I read the previous post about this "feature", it was just infuriating.

piersden : In fairness, when I initially used DSLExtreme's live tech support, the first, second and third response was I must have spyware and to install/run a detection/removal program. Only when I rather vehemently insisted it was not a spyware problem did the online tech apparently check and discovered it was indeed a change in the DNS server protocol. Naturally, he and later the phone-based tech I later talked to told me simply to "opt-out" and keep the cookie to avoid the problem. Obviously that advice was also. wrong. Although I agree reformatting/reinstalling OS is somewhat extreme, it is an understandable reaction if someone is not overly tech savvy or believes they may have spyware on their syste.

IAmTheEvilest : DSLExtreme should have made it clear to its customers that they were doing the redirecting and not some malicious application.
