Skaladar : Early this morning I noticed the ridiculously high downstream rate I was seeing for nearly a week had gone back to the 15/2 service I ordered. I fully expected this thinking they must be either testing or clueless as to what they were doing. You can decide :-) ... When I did call the rep giggled as she took my information admitting this was the first business account with 5 static IP's she had been requested to process. She then gave me a confirmation number and informed me it would take two days. "Figure it to be upgraded sometime Thursday" were her words. I thanked her, said goodbye and walked across the office to test and configure email on another client machine I had just cabled from my old router to the new (not Verizon provided :P) No sooner did I get there, enter the new mail server info and launch a browser did I see that my service was already switched to 20/5. I wouldn't have minded waiting a few days as long as I knew it was coming but I was pleasantly surprised to see they did it so quickly ... Oh, they did say the upgrade would be automatic for existing customers but that could run into the summer so it is important to make that call to get your request expedited.

Certainly a test to a server that is not close to you is going to be quite a bit slower than one that is close at these speeds. I am testing from Oyster Bay Long Island and will see 40+ Mbps if I check at Speakeasy NYC or NetAccess in Parsipanny NJ. If I go further out the speeds drop off sharply. After all, I want to test MY throughput, nor that of the internet ...

It would be nice to see the upstream increase soon as well as an increase in speed for those who already have a 30 Mbps package. I know I'd be a little PO'd if I didn't see the 30Mpbs service go up soon or an option to downgrade without penalty. In the meantime I have no complaints with what is supposed to be 20/5 clocking in at over 40 ...
