Re: [Packet8] BPG-510 Unlocked FW There's a lot of ways to get the IP address of your BPG510, but probably the easiest is to pick up the phone and say "COMPUTER, IP ADDRESS". ooops, sorry, that was a "Star Trek" Episode. Actually, just pick up the phone and dial 012-0003 . It will tell you the IP address and read back your phone number. Later... Mike... |

 | I've got a BPG-510 and I updated it with the unlocked firmware code posted above. However, when I try to change the SIP server settings and click 'Save SIP Settings' the settings always revert back to the packet8 settings. I can make changes to other settings (lan, codec, etc.) but not the SIP server setting.
I have tried updating the firmware a second time with the same results. I'm trying to make this packet8 adapter work with viavoice. Thanks for the help. |

christcorpPremium join:2001-05-21 Cheyenne, WY kudos:1 | This topic has also been discussed. Do NOT confuse "UNLOCKED FIRMWARE" with an "UNLOCKED ADAPTER" meaning able to use this adapter with any voip provider. That is not what the "UNLOCKED FIRMWARE" does.
The "UNLOCKED FIRMWARE" only opens up menus already in the firmware which allows you to change certain settings. These settings are usually "LOCKED" so the user can't change them. i.e. codec, fax/modem T.38 setting, etc...
In contrast, an "UNLOCKED ADAPTER" allows for the adapter to be capable of totally rewriting the settings to be used with any SIP provider. The packet8 firmware is setup to automatically default to theirs and only their servers. Big difference here.
Now, is it possible to "UNLOCK" the device to use it with a different VOIP service? Probably so. I don't know. I know there are 1,343,565 threads, plus or minus, talking about how to unlock the DTA310 packet8 adapter for use with other services. Probably even the BPA410, but I'm not sure. The 510 is relatively new, a few months, and probably hasn't been played with yet.
Anyway, that is the difference between an "UNLOCKED FIRMWARE" and an "UNLOCKED ADAPTER". Maybe someone who actually plays around with firmware and different adapters can chime in and shed more light on the topic. Later... Mike... |

The endpoint itself will spell the IP address. This is very useful when an IP address was assigned but for some reason the 0120003 IVR cannot be reached. -- Disclaimer: I work for 8x8. |
