Michieru2zzz zzz zzzPremium join:2005-01-28 Miami, FL | wtf.. Who needs all that bandwidth? Seriously, the only people who I think of using that bandwidth for legitimate reasons will be a medium size LAN of 20 or more computers.
What do people with Verizon FIOS basically use there bandwidth for?

What do people with Verizon FIOS basically use there bandwidth for? Newsgroups. Legit P2P, large file downloads like HD video from places like Gamespot.com and don't forget telecommuting.

Ok large file downloads, HD videos.
Telecommuting ok, VOIP, faxes.
All this can be done with a 6mbps line. What's the rest for?
Ok download files much faster, understood but that's it?
You got a 30/5 pipe just for that???
For a small business it starts to make sense where you have things in numbers. But for a consumer, it just not something I understand really unless they plan to provide services like video for multiple TV's or something that requires that much bandwidth. Until now I just don't see it.

As for grabbing a 30/5 line just for that, people like me who are stuck at 5000/384, would gladly pay 10 bucks extra for a LOT more speed, stability and ping times.

You better pray for that, once the competition is out don't expect for those prices to stay the same I can assure you on that.

Makes sense, but what files in general are we talking? The largest files I have ever downloaded where probably iso files for Ubuntu or Gentoo.

The largest files I have ever downloaded where probably iso files for Ubuntu or Gentoo. Ah, Linux files, eh? Yes, files like that. Speaking for me personally, I surf gamespot.com all day long, watching and downloading HD video clips and live streaming video and having 10/2 at least, would be enough. (I'd probably have the 15/2 package and the 20/5 when they upgraded.)
Sadly, where I am, I will never see Fios. In about 4-5 years, I'll be moving to a place that has FiOS fully realized and will enjoy it a lot.
And I don't really expect the price of 55 dollars to stick permanently. (Though, it'd be wonderful if it did.)
|
| | | | My time is much more valuable to me than an extra 5 dollars per month (currently on TWC 5/384). If I can eliminate one more irrelevant variable (bandwidth) then the package is worth it to me. | |

What do people with Verizon FIOS basically use there bandwidth for? Who knows but they love speed I guess. It's like a 400 hrs power Lamborghini or Ferrari. They can go 0 to 60 in 5 sec while most conventional car takes 20sec to 30sec. It's not bandwidth its this insane speed that makes them feel like their on top of the world.

And when you're downloading from a big, known server, your data comes to you that much faster so you can move onto the next one.
