Solid service from a Mom-and-Pop ISP

I have been using Raw Bandwidth's business service since 2000 (indeed, my office used to be theirs and my server room once was their main center, so the T-1 I use with them is the one they used to connect to the Internet backbone). I also have their DSL service at home, with static IP and no server limitation nonsense.

Like any small to midsize ISP, they are subject to the vagaries of the bigger players they purchase IP transit or DSL connectivity from. Since my DSL service is run from a Pac Bell (AT&T) DSLAM, I can't get rid of my wired phone line, for instance, as Pac Bell's reseller agreement prohibits that. The backbone connection is theirs, not AT&T's, however, so you won't be subject to the kind of cost-cutting overloading you will experience at companies run by bean counters.

What sets Raw Bandwidth apart is human service. Mike Durkin will help you with the setup, and will personally call you if there is an outage. It is rare to see that level of dedication to customer service, even in small firms, and you certainly won't get it from the corporate behemoths. They are not the cheapest (although their rates are competitive for higher-end services like static IP), but the service more than makes up for it.
