timrek : Yes sorry, I meant DVR, and no, I do not need the recorder. I like the simplicity of all the features built in to the tv (ATSC, NTSC, QAM tuners and TV guide).

I am sure customer service knew that I wanted a Cable Card but that apparently got lost in their communication with the local installers (both days). It still seems strange that neither tech knew what a cable card is.

They are charging me only the rental fee for the Card ($2.95) until the DVR is replaced. I still have not heard that anyone in this area has a working Card.

Don

Just wondering if you mean DVR. Very different machines. Do similar things, but very different.

That's probably what he meant, but if they would swap a VCR (cheap, antiquated device) for a registered cable card (expensive, useful, current tuning/control device) it would be a good deal ;)
Still I don't understand having to give up his DVR for a cable card, he gains the in set tuning, but loses the recording ability?

nycdave : CableCards are available and working with FiOS TV, but they probably are on backorder. Call up the FSC again and ask for a FiOS TV specialist who could verify your order...The field techs might be getting the wrong information on their service orders...

timrek : Does anyone have a Verizon Cable card in the VA, Fairfax county area?

Two days in a row they sent a tech to swap my VCR for a Cable Card. On both days the tech said "I,m here to pick up your VCR". I said no....I want to swap it for a Cable Card. Both techs reply "What is a cable card and what does it do" ? Called customer service again and now they say they are on back order.

Now I am wondering if they were ever available, or they are not yet working with FIOS.

Don
