[Captian Obvious] HD blows SD away! Severely![/Captain Obvious]
I watch just about anything I can in HD, whether I like the show or not... I just like the intense picture quality! LOL!
Having a HD set and watching SD quality programming on it is like having a Bentley to go grocery shopping at the corner market! DUH! -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

All of my viewing is OTA and I get 5 or 6 HD channels during prime time, so there is no shortage of HD programming. |

 | All simulcasted All of my Comcast analog channels are simulcast in digital and my Moto 3412 box does my scaling to 1080i.
The SD channels on my old Moto 62XX (when I didn't have my analog channels simulcasted) looked like trash. |

Re: HD screens with SD signal? Inch size is irrelavent, resolution is what matters... and whether or not you "stretch" the picture to fit.
Some "HD" sets are 1280x768-800 resolution. When you have a screen that displays ~1920x1200, SD looks like crap! Even if you have the option of lowering the res on your screen, it still aint pretty. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

 | I understand your point, so maybe I did not make mine clear.
A 720x480 signal that is from analog and then converted to a digital signal before going into my DVI output on the 62XX box took on a ton of artifacts.
The digital simulcast has removed some of the artifacting and pixelization.
Resolution converted by a quality scaler versus a POS scaler is going to certainly look different, but as you said - still the same native res. |

Some of the so called HD TVs are designed for only 720p... picture may be acceptable. The same signal on a 1080p screen will look like crap!
I was replying to cosmicvoid, as in inch size doesn't determin picture quality - screen res does. The difference between 720p and 1080p screens displaying *ANY* SD picture is noticiable. No matter what size the screen is. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

You are entitled to your opinion of how SD looks like crap on a high res screen, but I disagree. My set is a 1080p (1920 x 1080) HP MD5880n, and some SD programs look pretty good (the DTV ones), even though they are still 4:3 aspect, with blank pillars on each side. Of course, some analog channels do look crappy, but they would look crappy on any display. |

 | reply to dadkins I have a hdtv, a 42" Sony, with a built in hd tuner. I get about 12 channels over the air in HD, and I love it. Gotta love pure digital picture, and the digital sound to boot.
I put a 100$ antenna about 30' in the air, and put a 50$ booster on it, and a rotor.. and now have no monthly fee's =) |
