Build-Out

Build-out can take up to six years and only required to go to about the top 60 cities in population density. Most of those cities are on the northern part of the state. Horray for competition!

Well, why dont you volunteer your time and help them build out more quickly free of charge, not only work for free, but also donate your savings so they can buy materials?

Some things take TIME.

Yes remenber when we were all supposed to have fiber to the home in 1997. ISDN. Verizon has historically never came thru on anything see newnetworks.com

Time I can understand. But 60 cities? Does statewide not really mean statewide?

Statewide means anywhere in the state where its profitable (see reasonable) to build your network. As it should be with any PRIVATELY built network. Copper was different, it had a great proportion of it paid by tax subsidies and easements (if not outright kick backs). Communities aren't giving Verizon a dime for this network (in fact Verizon is paying them to use their poles, as they should) and they should be able to provide service to anyone they think can afford it. If you think your community can afford it, then get YOUR community to build a fiber network. From prior experience it can be done for around 1/2 mil. Talk to your town representative, or elect a new one.

actually building a fiber network is silly for a local community to do. Besides I am quite happy with my Charter Cable with 10 Meg, HD TV and phone service.

Normally, I would agree with this. The fact of the matter is that when a town tries to do that, even after they've asked and been turned down by companies like Verizon, they get lobbied, sued, and have massive ad-campaigns brought against them. It's almost a no-win situation if the private companies don't want to do it.

Not true. See Utopia in Utah. I know of other towns that are doing this for very reasonable prices (around 1/2 mil). The savings to the tax payers (if we assume the same pricing in Utopia) will easily exceed that in just the first few years.
