Somerset county is the most affluent in America. America is the most affluent country in the world, which makes Somerset the most affluent governmental entity in the world. Hunterdon have residences owned by people with last names like Forbes and Onassis, what does that tell you? Middlesex has many poorer areas such as The Amboys and New Brunswick (the part not near J&J or Rutgers) so its hardly affluent.

What about Camden, Vineland, and South Jersey. New Brunswick and the Amboys are the top quality compared to areas of south Jersey. When is Verizon Fios coming to Camden ?

Its about as likely to come to Camden as it is to Woodbridge or Carteret in Middlesex County.

Wrong. On a GDP basis, the USA is the wealthiest, most affluent, richest country in the history of the world.

Go and visit Switzerland, Saudi-Arabia, Kuwait, let alone Monaco, Luxembourg, Lichteinstein etc - they all enjoy much-much higher GNI than we do.

Your information is outdated. Back then, Connecticut was the most affluent state in the country. In 2005 NJ passed CT.

Well, that I have to do more digging, but look at the stats, NJ is the most affluent state in the most affluent country in the world. I probably have to see if NJ has some census data on a county basis.

The closest data I can find is from 2002, which puts it 3rd.

Yep. mbernste 's claim to most affluent in the USA stands (at least until we get 2006 census data). I'm going to hunt down some stats on Switzerland now.
