| wpnt834 with intel 3945 wireless card problems Hi i have a wpnt834 and im using it with a dell laptop that has the intel pro wireless 3945 adapter and it keeps getting disconnected every 10 seconds..Has anybody had trouble using a netgear router with the 3945 wirelss card ? |
|
| I went with the Dell 1490 a/b/g adapter and have no problems with my Netgear HE 102 802.11a access points. Is there anyway you can try the laptop on a friends wireless or at a local hotspot? It's possible you got a bum 3945 or maybe the antenna wires popped off the card. |
|
| In the Release Notes for the latest firmware (1.0.41), they specifically mention an issue with the Intel Centrino 3945ABG client....
"The Intel Centrino 3945ABG client sends out QoS null frames that will cause a reboot. Workaround: Disable the 11e QoS in Intel Centrino 3945ABG Configuration > Advanced Properties."
You can see all of the notes here:

Hopefully, that helps!

| reply to ImpetusEra Hi after long hours on the phone with india tech support they finally decided to sent out a 1490 replacement card because the 3945 has problems with a lot of routers...What is the difference between the 1490 and the dell 1390 and are they as good as the intel wireless cards such as the 2915 or 3945 ? |
|
| reply to gbp007 When they say to disable the 11e QoS, how exactly do I go about disabling this? Under Configure > Advanced Properties I have an option for Ad Hoc QoS mode. This then gives me the option to enable/disable WMM. Am I looking in the right place?
Also, does disabling QoS affect network performance at all? If it indeed does... I might as well return this thing. |
|
| reply to gbp007 The dell 1390 is a B/G card only. The 1490 is A/B/G just like the Intel 3945. I'm not sure exactly what differences there are between the 1490 and 3945 but I'd imagine at most the 3945 may have some more advanced settings and possibly better power management. Maily one is an Intel chipset while the Dell is Broadcom. I haven't used a 3945 but my Dell 1490 works perfect for me. I turned the laptop on and put in my wep key and it was communicating with my access points fine. I haven't had it drop connection on me yet. |

| reply to JTHunter under Ad Hoc QoS mode change it to disable but it still didnt solve the problem for me...Hopefully there will be a new firmware version for the wpnt834 to fix the 3945 problem soon. |

2 edits | reply to ImpetusEra I was checking out this webpage and it says the difference is that the 1490 is 2.4ghz while the 3945 is 2.4ghz and 5ghz..
check out this link as it gives you all the specs on the wireless cards - »www.dell.com/content/learnmore/l···=details |
|
| The dell page is wrong. 1490 IS dual band which supports the 802.11b/g band at 2.4GHz and 802.11a which is 5GHz. |

| reply to gbp007 Actually disabling QoS did nothing for me either. Still got disconnected every time a bit of traffic came from my wireless connection on the Inter 3945. I decided to return the router and pick up a D-Link DGL-4300. I can't justify paying $130+ for a router that doesn't work with my hardware. |

bcwang join:2004-08-02 San Jose, CA | try setting the "power management" mode of the 3945 to "maximum performance". The 3945 is known to have disconnect problems with many routers because of the way it polls when under power conserving mode. |
|
| reply to ImpetusEra Even better yet..I should be getting my 1490 wireless card soon thru ups |
|
| reply to ImpetusEra i really want to be able to use my 3945 card with this router but netgear hasnt released no freakin firmware update for it ! |
|
| I disabled QoS in general properties of the 3945, where it has the client for microsoft network blabla. Not in the adhoc QoS. It solved my problem of continuous router reboots. |

I just got a new firmware version from Netgear that seems to fix the ABG Centrino card problems. I just uploaded it to mine a few hours ago, and it seems to work great! -- -Sterling |

| link doesn't seem to work for me |

| reply to SterlingJ85 Dude - this rocks. Netgear is a PITA when it comes to releasing this Beta Firmware. Can't understand it. This cleared up my problem instantaneously. Although I didn't try the QoS disable on the Protocol list as nerdyu posted. |

| reply to gbp007 Based on the symptoms you've described, I would bet your problem is an Intel wireless card The resolution and problem are described below in both a link and a freehand description.
Your Intel problem has to do with an "undocumented feature" of the wireless called PSP (Power Save Polling) that works primarily when your laptop is running on the battery. This permits your wireless device to shut off devices (primarily newer routers) that it's connecting to in order to save power. The references on the Intel site (below) show you how to minimize the impact using your PCs and Intels Power Management settings. To correct the problem permanently, however, you'll need to do the following:
You'll need to upgrade the firmware of your router to the latest available.
You'll also need to upgrade your Intel wireless driver to the latest available (from either Dell or Intel).
Then you'll need to make the following changes to the Wireless Router Settings: Under the Advanced Wireless Settings: Change the Beacon interval from 100 to 50
Change the fragmentation threshold from 2346 to 2306
Change the RTS threshold from 2347 to 2304.
Updating the router firmware and wireless device driver will fix the problem by about 80%. The three additional changes should make the problem "go away."

| reply to SterlingJ85 Have you had any problems with the beta firmware 1044 ? Did it really solve the 3945 problem ? Im thinking of updating it so i was asking just to be sure..By the way how where you able to get your hands on it.. |

| Hello, Can someone repost a working copy of the beta firmware? I just invested some big bucks in buying this router and two new matching laptop PC cards for it. Would really like to get the beta firmware version if it really exists. I don't know why it was mentioned and then a corrupt or fake copy of it is posted here on the forum. Does it really exist I wonder.
Thank You! |
