HD Does Matter, Consumer Education Poor

I believe HD does matter, but the lack of consumer education shows how little people understand HD. I've been to stores (Circuit City, Sams, CompUSA) that have 720p/1080i/1080p sets on display showing 480p content. How is a consumer to truly judge anything if they can't see it.

I know many people who have HDTVs in their house, but have not hooked it up properly or bought the HD service, so they end up watching analog 480p content and think they are getting HD because the image is stretched.

I had not truly experienced the wonder of HD until I bought my own Samsung 720p set and hooked up and configured everything properly using good quality components (think HDMI or DVI-D). Now the difference is like night and day. Fortunately, 80% of what I watch is on HD in my area, with just the History Channel, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, and the Food Channel missing in the lineup.
