Switching from RCN I think.

I've been with RCN for a while and I've about decided to make the switch to SE.

However, I wanted to make sure I had this correct and if anyone can offer any advice/pointers, observations, I'd appreciate it.

I'm thinking about the onelink select plus. According to the site, thats 1.5/768 with 4 IPS for $95.95. Anyone else have this and call tell me what monthly fees are tacked on? (USF, etc)

With their current promotion, I will get a $99 credit for the install fee they will charge me and first month free. I plan to purchase a Westell 6100 modem and will not need their hardware.

I also understand that there will be no problem with "sharing" my costs with folks in my neisghbood.

So, anything I'm missing?

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

Taxes vary per State I cannot tell you much but yes they do charge USF, most likely state taxes as well. But like I said it varies per state.

As for sharing yes it's fine please read the TOS for more information »www.speakeasy.net/netshare/terms/#wifipolicy

You should look into Speakeasy's OSTG package. I have 1.5/768 on the OSTG OneLink plan, and I get 8 IPs, web space, a shell account (who gives those anymore; no one!) and 150 hour backup dial-up for $85.95 plus tax. They do charge a USF and a "regulatory compliance fee," as well as sales tax in my state. Here's what my bill looks like:

*Monthly DSL Line Charge - 85.95
*Federal Regulatory Fees - 3.22
*Regulatory Compliance Fee - 2.58
*TX State Sales Tax - 5.03
Total Current Charges - 96.78

The OSTG plan can be found here:

If you want the 1.5/768, call and ask for it.

I think it's a fantastic deal for what I pay. Yes, they allow sharing your connection. If you want to charge, they want you to use their NetShare plan, but if you're giving it away nothing special is required. They even allow servers and have no port filtering.

Thanks a bunch Wes,

That seems to be a better deal than I posted. I like the extra IPs as well.

I think SE is going to insist on sending you their modem and will bill you for it. However, they also include a return shipping label (prepaid) so jus send it right back...then follow-up to ensure your bill is properly credited.

They also charge for two months up-front (they bill for the upcoming month, not for the one that just passed - hence I always have a 1 month balance on my account).
Not sure how that will work for 'first month free'. I'd expect a bill for:
- two months with a one month credit
- the modem (if they insist on sending it)
- install fee with that credited

SpeakEasy is expensive but I really like the connection reliability, overall performance, and support. Hope the same results for you!

I'm gonna call them. Does anyone know if they give you the free month and free install as well?

Re: Switching from RCN I think.

I asked them about the netshare thing. They said I could handling billing on my own if I wanted, so I'm going to do that.

I just switch to SE today from comcast 8/768 speed. I got the Home Select OneLink ADSL 6.0/768 Pro-Install ...Don't know why but, my downloads are faster then comcast. I downloaded 1Gb today with no problem. I also use Vonage service

If you sign up with the OSTG there is no first month discount unless it's the 100$ OSTG plan you picked out.

I agree the modem is junk, I don't use it at all.
But some sort of error occured with my rebate and I brought it to adama's attention and he issued me a credit of the rebate amount and I didn't have to go through the hassle of rebate!
