Re: [new technologies] DHCP is up and running Before or after you upgrade the firmware: Go to the control panel of the router at 192.168.0.1
Log in
Click on the HOME tab at the top
Click on the blue WAN tab on the left side
Select Dynamic IP Address
Click the Green Apply Button (check mark at the bottom)
To see if it worked, after the router re-starts:
Go to the STATUS tab. If it has an IP address, Subnet, DNS servers all filled in then you are on DHCP. If not, you are still PPPoE only.
To switch back to PPPoE: Login Home Tab Blue WAN Tab Select PPPoE Click the green Apply (check mark) button at the bottom. Give it a few seconds and you should be re-signed in under PPPoE |

 | reply to PoloDude Polo, that is not true at all. Just goto WAN and change it from PPPoE to Dynamic, and that is it, test it out. If it works... awesome, if not, change it back to PPPoE.

SuperG03 I think what PoloDude meant was that the full funtionality of the DLINK and FiOS won't work a-la TV when it arrives etc. |

 | reply to JasonKnight darn it doesn't work in texas yet. How do you install the update? |

 | Why not just post how to switch back to 2.43 :P
As for DHCP it's still not working here...of course I don't use those dinky links either :P |
|
 | said by acrufox:Why not just post how to switch back to 2.43 :P Good luck. I've tried on a number of routers and have been unable to do so. We've been told you can, but so far we have not.
Upgrading the router to 2.50 is not needed for DHCP but it is a good idea. If you update it and are not on DHCP yet just reconfigure for PPPoE and it should work without an issue.
Installing 2.50 will NOT allow the link to work as DHCP if your data circuit has not been provisioned for it. |
|
 | reply to acrufox To switch back to PPPOE, after resetting router you should be able to go to »www.verizon.net/pppoe and download the old firmware. |

jack bGone FishingPremium,MVM join:2000-09-08 Cape Cod kudos:1 | I tried directly going back to 2.43 using that before, and it didn't work. I found it's a two step process to downgrade the 624. You need to go back to 2.39 then upgrade that to 2.43. It's a bit of a chore and as always, YMMV. -- ~Help find a cure for Cancer~ ~Proud Member of Team Discovery ~ |

So campers, if DHCP works for you using 2.43 then go for the upgrade, otherwise they're are no apparent advantages. () -- ~Help find a cure for Cancer~ ~Proud Member of Team Discovery ~ |

 | reply to Light Guy Why do you need to downgrade the firmware? Doesn't 2.50 still support PPPoE? |
|
jack bGone FishingPremium,MVM join:2000-09-08 Cape Cod kudos:1 | If I may reply: v 2.50 defaults to DHCP as the default connection on a router hard-reset, so a PPPoE-only user would be required to manually reconfigure their PPPoE connection details after a reset. Not a big deal, mind you, but who needs the headache. -- ~Help find a cure for Cancer~ ~Proud Member of Team Discovery ~ |
