Zen vision m?

Personally I think Creatives Zen Vision M is blowing Apple out of the water for the MP3/Video category. First, Creatives display is years ahead with thousands of more colors... anyone who views each side by side will go for the zen display.. Apple still does not support FM and the Zen will do regular AVI, XVID and mpegs unlike the Ipod video that has to be transcoded to a special codec. The only problem with the vision is that Creative has crappy distribution support and they can't keep them in stores.. they are selling like hotcakes and are often out of stock in their own online store.. Apples flash drive the shuffle also has to be the worst POS since it is just that.. a shuffle with no ability to play folders, ID3 tags etc.. my 1 gig muvo TX is smaller, lighter, has FM and can play folders, tags and records for less money then the shuffle.. Please somebody explain how apple is so superior with less features for more $$.. I don't get it.

The Ipod has more sales because for some reason people love to see that little apple and the name Ipod. It doesn't matter if the next MP3 player can cook you breakfast some people just want the Ipod for the brand name.

Just to be clear... Apple has always said the 5G iPod is an iPod with Video. They're not claiming it's a 'video iPod', that may be out later in the year. And you don't consider AVI or XVID needing a special CODEC? And FWIW, the iPod will play mpeg.

Hmmm... maybe... but my iPod can interface with my cars factory radio, charge and display song titles on my factory NAV display. And I can control it from my steering wheel. All I would be able to do with the Zen is play music via an AUX input and have wires all over the place and the ZEN interface to controll music while I drive.

Don't get me wrong. I like options and competition. I hope the Zen does well. But, just as MSFT has the market share for the desktop, Apple has it for the MP3 player. And based on the level of support for the iPod from 3rd parties, I'm guessing the iPod share will only increase.

As evidenced by the overwhelming market shift in their favor?

"First, Creatives display is years ahead with thousands of more colors"

And decades behind with their cheap and ugly plastic casing and idiotic controls, not to mention their worthless and buggy PC software. People buy iPods for their unique combination of style, industrial design, construction and materials quality, efficient and easy to use interface, and bulletproof syncing with iTunes software which is also a great example of good design and great reliability and dependability.

Apple - it's styling, and it works.

Apple is not marketing the iPods to people who buy their jeans at Wal-Mart.

"Apple still does not support FM"

Yeah, because when I'm walking around with 60 gigabytes of my own music, the first thing I want to do is listen to Britney Spears on the radio.

Unlike Microsoft, though, Apple dominates the MP3 market through continuing brilliant design and innovation, not by illegally leveraging a monopoly to force people to accept something they really don't want.

Nor should they. FM radio sucks, it's a dead medium and I'm glad Apple doesn't spend the extra few cents to add FM radio capabilities to iPods. Give me an iPod with an XM AND Sirius tuner built in and I’ll be happy. Seriously, who listens to crappy terrestrial radio these days?

Since when does market share equal superior product? Are you a Mac fan? If the Mac is so wonderful why isn't it beating the pants off of MS Windows? Another example is the video cassette format war back in the 80's. Beta was a superior format with better picture and sound, but it lost out to VHS in market share.

You haven't actually used a Creative Zen product, have you? I have a Zen Touch that has lasted well over a year without so much of a blemish or scratch on the casing. And that's after dropping it on the concrete once or twice. The scroll wheel might still be a cut above the Creative touch pad, but idiotic? I find scrolling through pages of files very easy. As for software I have had just as much trouble using iTunes I have using Creative Media Source, so if you ask me BOTH companies need some work in that department.

All of those reasons you mentioned Creative has down. Additionally the Creative players SOUND better (lab tests even prove that), have longer battery life, and include additional features on top of that. That's just one company that's doing it too. Look up the iRiver

That's true. However style and "working" only gets you so far with people who are looking for more than the latest fad. Apple makes a good mp3 player, but it's by no means the best overall player out in the market and hasn't been for a few years.

Apple DOES support FM, just not out of the box:

You're right. There are some people so conditioned that they can't go an afternoon without having to reboot some thing they're using. Enter Microsoft.

Sorry, just couldn't resist.
