1 edit | Unfortunately... There will never be a true ipod killer. Apple has won in marketing and advertising. We all know here that the ipod is crap compared to its competition offering much more features and banh for your buck. I personally think sony's line of Hi-MD walkman and Network Walkman are totally superior to everything else on the market today. Offering things like longer battery life (30-40 hours), much smaller players, superior sound quality, extra storage per gig (throug atrac3plus), and very well built players (magnesium or aluminum). And Hi-MD walkman also offer the extra perk of recording and removable media. Hi-MD runs off 1GB (675 songs, $5 each) and 300MB (200 songs, $1 each) minidiscs. Sony has some really great players/recorders going these days. Hi-MD MZ-RH10 (I own one of these beauties) Hi-MD MZ-NH1 Network Walkman NW-HD1 20GB 13,000 songs (credit card sized) NW-HD5 20GB 13,000 songs -- Spread Opera! cluth join:2004-01-06 Anchorage, AK | Sounds nice, except that dealing with minidiscs is a hassle. My music folder has 30GB (although I'll admit that a substantial portion of that is uncompressed AIFFs that have been output from Logic Pro as a result of my part-time mixing work). I don't want to have to split it up onto 30 discs...I'd rather just plug in a device and have it all copy while I take a shower or eat lunch or something. I'm not saying that the iPod is the perfect device (that one that someone mentioned above that has the nonexistent U.S. marketing looks pretty spiffy)--I'm just saying that this Sony one doesn't fit a lot of people's needs. |

 | reply to Rob A Sony's downside is their push to use their own proprietary formats. Mini disc, atrac, and to a lesser extent memory sticks. It's hard to market a good product when it appears more restrictive on the outside (even if it truly isn't). |
