 | To truly innovate You need to DOUBLE the capacity such as 120gb in a similar size/price/format to really knock the ipod down to size. I'm surprised people just don't innovate on the pda/palm systems under the plam/linux/ppc operating systems.
Compact flash drives can go as high as 40gb or more on a cf card these days, and flash memory is pushing 10gb. The other thing keeping me away from these things other than outrageous prices in the $300-700 range, is that they use proprietary l-ion batteries! Why oh why can't they run on 4 2600mah batteries already!?!? It would only make the device a mandatory 1/2 inch thicker and 2 inches longer.
Another thing that irks me is the lack of innovation on portable dvd players. They are short on file format compatability!! Where's the divx, mp3s on dvd(+,-,rw,dl), mpg2,4,wmv(a),etc,etc?!? Also, the tablet format should replace ordinary portable cd players, but they aren't due to this limitation.. the nimh batteries are approaching the power requirements for dvd players but prices are still sky-high for 8-12 inch models..
I'll sit on the fence until either shoe drops (the 60gb video ipod goes down to around $250) or something else gets to around that range with better features/expanded compatability. |
