My cable company used to offer The Weather Channel for $1 as A la Carte. My cable bill was $10 for local broadcast + The Weather Channel. When they dropped the A la Carte, I could then get it for $35 (now I think it's $50) for the basic 60 channel package. I took the other route and got rid of cable all together. In retrospect, the packages saved me $120/yr but the channel selection really went in the toilet.
