I'm having some problem unlocking brand new 3.1.9LSc units purchased earlier this week from BestBuy. My setup is as follows:
Internet -- Firewall -- Home Network -- Laptop -- Private Network -- PAP2
The home network is 192.168.1.x, the private network is 192.168.2.x. The laptop is running Linux with all the services required (DNS, TFTPD, Apache, NTPD). DNS is set so that all Vonage.net requests are resolved to the Private network interfaces of the Laptop. Three TFTPD daemons are running (one each for port 21, 69 and 2400). IP forwarding on the laptop is disabled, so there's no way packets from either side can make it to the other.
With Ethereal running, after factory resetting a PAP2, I can see the unit grab the xml file from the Laptop on ports 69, 21 and 2400, but no request is made to the web server.
This has happened on three units is Vonage playing some games?
Serial Numbers are in the FH900Fxxxxxx series.
Thanks! |

Here's where I am stuck:
My FW version is 3.1.3(LS)
- Disconnected cable modem from the router
- Connected Linksys PAP2 device to the router
- Disabled Symantec Client Firewall from services and stopped built in Windows XP firewall as well. Restarted PC.
- TFTP works fine tftp get PAP2SP2K.bin delme.bin in DOS, it transfers the file successfully "Transfer successful: 727592 bytes in 1 second, 727592 bytes/s" TFTP server window shows an entry "Sent pap2sp2k.bin to (192.168.1.102), 727592 bytes."
- Modified my router config to forward ports 5060 and 5061 to
- Picked up the phone, dialed **** - Pressed 73738#, it says press 1 to cinfirm. When I press 1, it hangs up on me. - When I access »/upgrade?tftp:///PAP2SP2K.bin in the browser, the entry in TFTP window shows "Timeout error while sending to 192.168.1.100: The connection is reset by remote side"
and this timeout error comes up immediately after I run the upgrade command - not even couple of seconds delay.
What am I doing wrong? Please HELP!!! |

Which problem - the PAP2 not grabbing the .bin file from apache, or not being able to download the .xml file from Vonage? Haven't solved the problem with the PAP2 not grabbing the .bin file, I was able to download the .xml files an hour after I originally had the problem, must have been a problem on Vonage's end (kept getting timeouts). |

I just tried 150# and found the firmware version is 2.0.9b which is gr8. it seems pap2 actually picked up the bin file. now my problem is DNS is set to 216.115.24.230 (vonage server) and gateway is set to 192.168.1.199 (local pc). pap2 web is down. pap2 does not read anymore. pl help. |

Hi chipmonger, I am also having problem to get the xml file from vonage BTW, what command did you use? tftp -i ls.tftp.vonage.net get //spa****.xml or tftp -i ls.tftp.vonage.net get spa****.xml they just kept giving me time out error. |

Same problem here! Also 9.1.9.LSc. Dude did you solve your problem? If yes, can you give me some light? Thanks!
have got vonage3.1.9LSc fw. I was trying to download the spaMAC.xml from vongage site using tftp. But I couldn't do it. always report timeout.
I am sure that my tftp has no prblem, since I have tested on two connected pc. I also use ethereal (and tftp log) to see that pap2 is trying to reach the spaMac.xml in my local fake setup network.
I was stuck at getting the spaMAC.xml. Is it possible that vonage didn't even post the file?
some brother before suggested to manufacture the spaMAC.xml. But I couldn't find any detailed description.
Any advise is welcome. thanks!thanks!thanks! |

Haven't solved the problem with the PAP2 not grabbing the .bin file, I was able to download the .xml files an hour after I originally had the problem, must have been a problem on Vonage's end (kept getting timeouts). Ok, I did some more research and found something interesting. In performing several tftp requests for one MAC address, I found that the files downloaded differed in file size by a few bytes. Now, when I download, I specify the IP address of the server, rather than use ls.tftp.vonage.net. Of the files downloaded, the only one that when uploaded to the PAP2 told it to grab the .bin file from apache was 29456 bytes in length. Others, sized 29455, 29452 and 29453 bytes would not request the bin file. Using the file 29456 bytes in length, I've been able to successfully unlock the FH900Fxxxxxx units. Unfortunately, the BestBuy sale is over and the PAP2 v2.0 units are starting to filter in. |

I cant find a hack or crack or anything that works, is there one that works? or Aim I shit outta luck? Yes and/or no. The answers are buried somewhere in this thread and/or this PAP2 Unlocking Guide (Part I). You'll need lots of patience to sift through thousands of posts to find out. As you are sifting through, you will find out perhaps half of the threads are repeated posts with Q&As (like this and your posts). So, be patient to go through those posts and you are going to find out the answers as well as learning a lot on how to unlock a PAP2, let alone those tips and tricks. Have fun and good luck. |

My friend's pap2 version is 3.1.9. When he dialed the ****, he got a busy signal(tried many times). Did the pap2 connect to the Vonage(I'm not sure, and he either)? |

Sorry to hear about that, but to others the process help them to unlock their PAP2. Perhaps, you didn't understand what you read. Just which part didn't you understand? |

Okay now I have a PAP2-NA running firmware 3.1.8 and is locked to ionoshpere.net anyway to unlock this? if so can you PM me with Detailed Instructions? |

All unlocking process include at least one factory reset. So, can you factory rest it? If not, until you got user PW, your PAP2 is locked. You can not unlock it. |

I have exactly the same problem. Following the instructions in the part 1 of this forum, I set up apache, pumpkin tftp and DNS. PC and PAP2 were connected to router, which was disconnected from internet. I placed the Vonage xml file in the tftp root and a copy of it in the weird subdirectory. After several trys the PAP2 did grab the 2 xml files and the fw bin file from apache. For some reason my XP box running the servers crashed right after PAP2 grabbed the .bin file! But after the dust settled, I now have a PAP2 with solid red light. IVR says "sipura configuration menu". 150# says fw ver 2.0.9. So sounds promising, right? So I set up all the servers again, made the plain text xml in the tftp directory, power cycled the PAP2, but nothing happened. There is no requests from pap2 in logs of DNS, Apache or pumpkin. The blue light does blink a couple times after power up so it is trying to do something. The first xml that was fed to it changed the primary and secondary DNS to the vonage servers. So how does it know to look for my DNS server? Before I was able to set the DNS via 161# or the web interface. But now 161# asks for a pw which none of the know user pw works, and web is disabled. Or is it looking for the xml through other ports? Help is greatly appreciated. |

nycll, I did not have your kind of problem therefore I did not have to solve it, but if you think that only the DNS is your problem, then I have an idea that might help you: On your router (not connected to the internet), LAN settings, change 'Local IP Address' or network IP or whatever name has in your router, from something like 192.168.1.1 to 216.115.24.1 (first 3 from vonage server, last 1) then change the IP of your PC connected to the router and running DNS server to static IP 216.115.24.230 (same as vonage server) then connect PAP2 to the router; from the DHCP Server on your router he will receive an IP like 216.115.24.xxx The requests for DNS server 216.115.24.230 should reach now your PC in the local network (for a LAN Gateway 255.255.255.0) |

Thanks for the help. I tried the suggested trick but it didn't work. On the router I could not set an IP other than the private addresses (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x and 172.10.x.x). It is a Belkin 54G router. I was able to set the WAP IP address on the router to the vonage server's, but on the Lan the router is still 192.168.2.1.
I could set my PC's network ip address to that of the Vonage server. I connected the PAP2 to the PC directly via a crossover cable. Now the PC IP is 216.115.24.230 and the PAP2 ip is 192.168.2.3. They don't seem to talk to each other, perhaps due to subnet mask? I tried ping PAP2 from pc and the blue light blinked once but there was no reply.
Also tried the set-up I had before which successfully made the the pap2 grabbing the sipura 2.0.9d fw. This time I had 3 pumkins up on port 69, 21 and 2400. The problems is that my dns received zero traffic from the pap2. Shouldn't the pap2 be able to resolve the DNS locally after the primary and secondary DNS servers were not available? |
