FUD

Please show me ONE neutral source that confirms the existence of these "NSA Spy Rooms".

It always seems to be "former employees" that come forward. They wouldn't have an axe to grind against AT&T would they? How come there are no "Current Employees" blowing the whistle??? Perhaps because these rooms are perfectly legal and no one without a hidden agenda has anything to say.

current employees NEED THEIR JOBS and so don't blow the whistle. despite laws that attempt to encourage whistleblowers, these people still get screwed in the long run. does that make sense?

Those employees then are part of the problem.

let's be realistic though. not everyone has it in them to blow the whistle. it can tear your family apart (movie: The Insider).

Tough. Maybe these people should find new jobs if they find their work ethically challenging.

Outside of an occasional "needs-to-know" employee or government operative, how precisely would anyone else know about an NSA hidden area?

I do too, but in the end, I would never hire someone who squealed on a previous employer. I don't care what the reason was. I don't care about the legalities involved. The last thing I feel I need, if I am a business owner (which I am not) is someone on my payroll spending his time looking for what they think might be dirty laundry instead of working.

And you wonder why employed workers at AT&T don't play whistleblower?

But, we're not talking about a business, we're talking about a government agency. Having worked for the government at almost every level (federal, state, county, and municipal) at one time in my life or the other, I can honestly say I never went looking for anything that I thought might be dirty laundry.

I have had the basket of dirty socks and sumo thongs dumped on my head a few times, though.

So to speak, of course.

Says the man who obviously hasn't encountered anything to trouble his conscience. Other people, who obviously have consciences, are troubled by these issues. Not everyone is a robot. Just as the administration's defenders who post here (and everywhere else) like to trumpet the fact that we all have the right to free speech, this is a free speech issue, period, end of sentence. To suggest that someone, somewhere, with some sort of ill defined idea as to what is classified as "national security concerns" trumps the First Amendment to the Constitution is troubling, to say the least. It did not work for McCarthy or Nixon, and it won't work for Bush.

These are not trade secrets or the formula for KFC chicken, this is data being handed over to the government without due process. Nothing justifies the elimination of a core element of our government/society. You can't tear the Constitution apart to save it.

So then what do you do? You squeal... even if you turn out to be right, you're pretty much ostracized from everyone who'd ever want to hire you. How do you pay your bills? How do you support your family? What if you are wrong? You screw yourself.

I'm not condoning illegal activity... but I also don't want to lose my own skin either.
