upside is you dont get debt from family members far as i know. if someone's parents die, the creditors cant take a fully paid off house that has been left to the living members.(far as i know a will overrides creditors access to funds).

Correct in most jurisdictions. Only legitimate charges to the estate up to the date of death can be deducted from the estate other than legitimate charges in the disposal of the estate.

If the estate is bankrupt, charges cannot be passed to the descendents or beneficiaries, even though the people doing the billing may attempt to collect from them! It has been known.
