While I agree that Cingular has its shortcomings at times, my service has been top-notch.

I was asking you why neither my Cingular nor my Sprint/Nextel handsets go directly to Houston Police Department when I dial 911.

Do you have an answer othat than "because They Suck DUH"? Thanks.

Yep, I saw your link. I read it... twice.

said by your link :
First: The FCC requires wireless carriers to provide Enhanced 911 call identification capability when requested by each of the approximately 6,000 state/local PSAPs nationwide.
I know that Verizon has E-911. I know that Cingular and Nextel have it, too. What I was asking you is if you knew about HPD, HCSO, and HCCO... if their call centers support E-911?

Have you ever actually dialed 911 from your Verizon phone? If not, this discussion is moot at best.

Very interesting. So if you've never used it, how do you know it works?

You claim to have called Verizon to see if your phone has GPS:

That's all fine and dandy - all they did was tell you that, yes, your phone does come with GPS. Just because it's there doesn't mean that the local police call center is compatible. Like I said, my Nextel phone has GPS enabled, but it's useless if the local police don't support it. You have much to learn about cell phones.

If you're curious and want to actually see if it works, try calling these numbers - 713-884-3131 (HPD) or 281-652-1100 (PPD) - to ask if their call centers will work with E-911.

I'm not sure what the last word means, but please share your results once you hear back from HPD and PPD.

If you get bored, here are some more numbers and links:
713-221-6000 - HCSO
281-517-1220 - Texas DPS / Highway Patrol
»www.co.harris.tx.us/constable/ - HCCO
