A company can get loans/credit ratings based on captive customers (contracts) and number of products sold. If customers bundle, they can say we have 6 million pots and 6 million dsl, and sell 12 million products, but we "cover" 10 million people, but only have 6 million customers. All this bundling proves the products are practically free, and customer cost has little if anything to do with operational costs. All your money gets put into a pool to pay dividends, bonuses, b2b backroom undertable dealings, "cost of living expenses" and loans and credit lines, bonds, and yeah maybe capitol and operational costs. The POTS equipment has paid itself off 100s-1000s of time by now. Its free to operate for ATT.
