I doubt that most folks have one lying around. I had mine installed by a tech (I got screwed around so long with lies and such that when I got hold of some higher level folks they gave me a free technician install so I went with it and got the splitter tossed in.) I would hope that, should my splitter fail, it would be replaced for free.

What type of splitter was it and how long had it been in use? There have been questions about how long these things are supposed to last before failing or at least how long those that have been reported as failing have lasted.
