Do you use just the name and password the radomly generate you or do you make one? Because if I dont have to make one I wont install the software. I will just enter it directly in my Linksys 4 port dsl router.
I didn't install their software at all. I've got an Orckit (older version of the Fujitsu) modem, and it's hooked to a NIC in my server, which has another NIC going out to the rest of my home network. GTE/Verizon (at least in my neck of the woods) keys off of the MAC address on the NIC card, and probably the physical location of the line (ie. the card you attach to in the Central Office). The user ID and password is only necessary for getting mail and connecting to the news server. -- Scott Kuntzelman Notes_Admin(.at.)bigfoot.com
reply to Anon I'm under the old GTE footprint with verizon. All I did to install was bind TCP/IP to the NIC and hook the modem up. The CD they sent is under my coffee mug! The user name and password are for the mail servers and you can generate an email alias rather than using theirs. -- What good is freedom without the freedom to make mistakes?
reply to Anon The userID and password assigned are strictly for email. your login and password are imbedded in your line. Plugging the modem into the WAN port on a router is all ya need to do. -- Any views or opinions expressed are the sole opinion of the author, not necessarily the views or opinions of Verizon Select Services or any of it's affiliates.
because Earthlink sux of course (I'm kidding, calm down ELink) :P Honestly, I don't know. It probably has something to do with it being easier to monitor connection times and bandwith usage with PPPoE -- Any views or opinions expressed are the sole opinion of the author, not necessarily the views or opinions of Verizon Select Services or any of it's affiliates.
