When you put your laptop to sleep, it backs up your RAM to the hard drive. In the case you remove your battery to replace it or your battery dies when you start it up the next time, it will boot up from the hard drive from hibernationn. I agree with the assessment of the other members here, this sounds very normal to me.

Every laptop I've ever owned has had battery drain like this in sleep mode.

Quite frankly, I rarely use sleep mode on my MBP. I know with my iBook it moves maybe 1 or 2% with it asleep for like 5 hours.

It seems as if my battery drains a significant amount when using sleep mode. For example, last night I but my MacBook to sleep with 97% battery. When I awoke (7 hours later) my battery was at 88%. Is this normal for a MacBook? I'm under the impression that sleep mode should drain very little, maybe 5% tops during that period of time.

Now I have tried a few things to remedy the problem. I have insured nothing was connected to the MacBook, and I have put it to sleep manually from the Apple menu with the AirPort and Bluetooth off. Tonight I'm going to try putting it to sleep with the 512MB of RAM that came with the MacBook (I upgraded to 2GB). Any other ideas?
