| true applications I think the idea of the article was to further reduce the size of each "fiber strand" an order (or two) of magnitude, thus fitting much more 'strands' in a typical fiber cable, thus increasing overall bandwidth of the cable and/or reducing the necessity for "amplifiers" every so many foot length before signal attenuation. This is much to do about next-generation internet backbone and underseas cabling upgrades of the 21st century more than anything. Seeing widespread use to the home?
