As to why VZ is doing this, it is out of character for them, and is in stark contrast to what they are doing in other states. I'm guessing is has to do with Senators Byrd aand Rockfeller, both powerful and influential politicians. WV is a relatively small state, so they wouldn't need much money spent ($5M) to demonstrate to these two that they are "serious" about BB deployment (so please pass that nationwide TV franchise bill). |

My part of the world is by no means "rural" anymore, but when I was growing up it was.
I'm sure the same people making rural "redneck" jokes about WV are the same people that would bitch about "redlining" Fios deployment in predominantly African-American inner city areas.
But, When we're making fun of gap toothed white folk, it's A-OK.
Pre judging people based on anything from the color of their skin, to the part of the country they live in is bigotry.

Don't say that this out of character for them when lets face it...you really don't know what VZ is doing in other states do you???!!! Because if you did then you would know that in Vermont where I live I have been waiting for DSL for a long time and I have been told that by the end of July I will be able to get it. And YES I work out of a Remote Terminal.
I know of several people here in Vermont that have not had the option of DSL until just this past year. So contrary to your statement above, Verizon is expanding DSL to many rural customers thru RT and CO expansions. At least in Vermont they are, I cannot speak for other states.
I must admit that it does seem that they are focusing most of their attention and money on FIOS. But I guess they must have finally figured out that they can still make money on DSL too. At least in the rural states that have no chance in the near future for anything like FIOS |

1.rural folk are just like city folk. there are good and bad, smart and not so smart. hell, some of the dumbest people i know live in the city.
2. good call on why they are being so generous all of a sudden...although 5 million is practically nothing when it comes to cost of deployment. :/ -- no sig |
