Geez

Why is it that everyone thinks that all West Virginians are hicks? Probably the same people that think WV is still part of virginia...

Anyways, I live right beside the interstate in wv. In a townhouse complex that was built in the middle of an industrial park. I've had charter cable for 7 years (even though it sucked), because i didn't want a phone line. Moved here recently, and there isn't cable up here. The only DSL option was VZ, and they required us to get a phone line, or pay the whole year up front for a dry line. On top of that, we're 15,000 feet from the CO (which is located in the town across the river, and we're stuck at 1.5Mb/384k. I still have to pay the full 3M/768k price since they don't guarantee speeds. I tried to get SDSL from another company, but they couldn't do it originally because of load coils VZ had on the lines. After a conference call with the CEO of that company, and some higher-ups at VZ, the load coils got removed. I can get the SDSL, but only at 384k,being so far away from the CO, so I went with VZ. I've had nothing but trouble with it, mainly disconnects and slow downs-since day 1. A "technician" came to run some tests and said the lines were fine. To top it all off, a week after the DSL had been activated, I get a hanger on my door stating that "DSL is now available in your area" AFTER I already had it, and neighbors have had it for a year at least.

I have an EV-DO phone from sprint, and would LOVE to go that route, but Sprint doesn't own any towers in WV, Sprint uses Verizon Wireless towers (go figure) and Verizon doesn't plan to upgrade our towers to EV-DO anytime in the near future.

Verizon just all around sucks, and they probably have the same attitude that these other people have about West Virginians being hicks who don't need broadband. I may be a hillbilly, but I still phiend for bandwidth. I run a remote backup
