Funny, this is what I thought when I read it too.

Perhaps pragmatism has replaced his idealism.

Interesting path, idealistic vision gets you rich, you diversify, then discount the vision. Richard Branson he is not.

Exactly. This guy used to be able to maintain a fairly open-minded way of thinking (WRT broadcast flag, downloads etc), despite his obvious interests in cable/sat programming business - what happened to him...?
