howie : The KB917537 update is only required by those running XP Pro (as well as W2K and W2K3 Server) and IIS. I, too, installed it on a non-IIS system and got the "missing hotfix" message and "broken lock" icon in Belarc. If you're not running IIS and have installed this hotfix, it's safe to remove it via Add/Remove as this vulnerability only affects IIS users.
For fun, I installed IIS on my XP Pro SP2 system, ran WU and was immediately offered the KB917537 Update, which I installed. Belarc then correctly reported that my hotfixes were "up-to-date". I'm sure Belarc will provide a fix for this issue soon.
